Does the SoundPlicity Control kit include everything I need to install it?Yes, absolutely. There are several CONTROL models, but every model includes absolutely everything you need* to install and enjoy it, except in some cases an Apple 30-Pin to Lightning adapter which may be required if you have an iPhone 5 or newer. For a full list of the included parts, simply click “What’s Included” and enter your vehicle info.
*Please note that for some vehicles a DSP adapter or a small passthrough cable may be required in addition depending on your particular vehicle. Our website will automatically ask you if you might need these parts.
*Some features, such as the spec.dock ashtray iPhone mount and Sirius satellite radio, are optional, and require the purchase of additional parts. Don’t worry; we’ll offer these great options to you at checkout if they’re available for your BMW.
Which SoundPlicity Control model is right for me?The kit that's right for you depends on the features you need! For simple, easy iPod / iPhone integration that will charge your phone, give you great sound quality, and allow you to change tracks right from the radio, the ONE is right for you.
If you want iPod / iPhone integration with more powerful controls, optional SiriusXM, charging, plus info about who’s playing on your radio, the Control II is right for you.
If you want a hard-wired connection to your iPod or iPhone for the best sound quality, Bluetooth hands-free calling and wireless audio streaming, Android compatibility, charging, optional SiriusXM, and the ability to use Siri right from your steering wheel, the Control III is right for you.
How does the SoundPlicity Control connect to my car?The SoundPlicity Control uses your factory CD changer connections in the trunk (or in some X3’s, the center console). Even if you don’t have a CD changer in your car, you’ll have these connections if your car was sold in the U.S. We then route a cable to the front of the vehicle where you can connect and control your device(s) through the SoundPlicity unit of your choice.
NOTE: Outside the U.S., most vehicles are equipped with CD changer pre-wiring, but not all; check with your dealer by giving them your VIN and they’ll be able to tell you if you have these connections, or use our installation instruction (see "Install" tab) to check for these connections in your BMW.
Will I still be able to use my CD changer? No, you won’t. Fortunately, you’ll find that you won’t miss the CD changer with access to your entire music collection, internet radio, optional SiriusXM, and more!
Can I install a SoundPlicity Control kit myself?Yes, you can! As with all of our products, installation is a simple, do-it-yourself affair. We like to say that if you can put together IKEA furniture, you can install our products, because we’ve designed them from the ground up to be installed by anyone.
But if you’re not sure, we recommend reviewing the install guides and videos available right here on our site specific to your BMW. Just click “Installation” above for more info and select the model of the SoundPlicity Control in which you’re interested.
If I don't want to install the SoundPlicity Control myself, who can? Many of our customers use this list of local independent BMW mechanics throughout the U.S. and Canada and have reported great results.
If you can't find an installer that's convenient to you on that list, the great news is that because our products are incredibly easy to install, virtually any place that works on cars can perform the installation. You could take the car to your local mechanic, the BMW dealer, or even any well-regarded local car audio shop -- it’s your choice.
I'm outside the U.S. Will the SoundPlicity Control work with my car?Yes, our SoundPlicity Control is available internationally! However, there are a couple of catches to be aware of before you order:
1. You need to be sure your BMW has factory CD changer connections. Here in the U.S., every car is equipped with prewiring for a CD changer. Outside the U.S., that's not the case. So, you'll need to make sure your car has this prewiring (generally labelled in the trunk or definitely there if you have a CD changer; check with your dealer if unsure).Once confirmed, if your car does have a CD changer or at least connections for one, there's a 99% chance the product will work without issue in your vehicle. (See our install guides on the product itself to find your connections).2. You're responsible for all shipping costs for warranty service. While these are great products and generally very reliable, they complicated pieces of electronics equipment, and sometimes they do go bad or don't work properly. You'll need to be aware that you're responsible for ALL shipping costs to and from should you need a unit replaced or serviced under warranty, however unlikely.
I have factory Bluetooth installed in my car. Will the SoundPlicity Control III work with it installed? The SoundPlicity Control III does work with factory Bluetooth, but use and operation isn't very graceful. That's because your phone can only be paired with one of the two units at a time. That means you'd have to switch back and forth for calling vs. music streaming. We'd suggest removing the factory Bluetooth system and using the Control III instead, or if you're planning on listening to an Apple device, you can keep the factory Bluetooth for calling and play your music using either a SoundPlicity ONE or Control II.
