While these have been shipping for almost 2 months now, I don't think we've really let everyone know how magnificent these tweeters really are. Where do I begin? First, let's talk a bit about what a tweeter actually does in the listening environment.
In your BMW, the tweeters are responsible for playing frequencies above roughly 3000 Hz. These frequencies can be difficult to reproduce accurately and without fatigue for a number of reasons, the most common being cone material. To give ourselves a solid foundation, we chose the most natural material available for tweeter dome construction; woven silk composites. Again, the human voice is what we recognize to be the most soothing sound in the world, and in order to reproduce those frequencies as accurately as we believe to be possible, we sought out materials that most closely represented the smoothness and timbre of those voices. The silk domes of the tweeters are shaped to optimize resonance, control breakup modes, and are precisely coated for damping to minimize breakup and distortion. They also employ integral rubber surrounds to minimize edge reflections and further reduce distortions.
The motor structures of our BSW tweeters are of the Neodymium-type to allow for compact size and maximum flux, or energy transferring through the tweeter. So, in English, our new BSW tweeters offer a natural timbre with smooth, precise highs, a dramatic presence, and wide-dynamic range; in other words, exactly what a tweeter should be. Now, for the aesthetics:
- A 1 piece extruded aluminum housing surrounds the tweeter, giving it both a solid foundation and a look unparalleled at any price point.
- Machined front lip of the tweeter allows it to snap into a wide variety of applications, from the E36 to the new BMW E91 Speakers.
